Origin of the Store:
Shoppers Drug Mart was founded in 1962 in Toronto by pharmacist Murray Koffler. It has more than 1,253 stores operating throughout Canada, and most small towns can boast that they have a Shoppers. In 2014, some stores began selling fresh groceries at select locations, so that time-pressed customers can have it even more convenient! Many stores are now open 24 hours a day.
In 2014, Shoppers Drug Mart was purchased by Loblaws for $12.4 billion. Stores have remained under the Shoppers name.
